Australia: Jihad murderer makes Islamic State gesture in court

Everyone in the world knows that the raised index finger is a sign of allegiance to the Islamic State. Yet if you dare point this out, watch for a barrage of accusations of “Islamophobia” and a blizzard of emails containing photos of non-Muslims with raised index finger. Even those who stoop to this sort of thing must be aware that it is deceptive: Islamic State jihadis repeatedly make this gesture, and however else it is used in other contexts, in the case of Milad Atai and other jihadis its meaning is unmistakable.

Muslim students at Brooklyn College make the gesture of allegiance to the Islamic State. Were these students investigated? Why not?

“Terror attack accused reportedly makes Islamic State gesture in Sydney court,” 9 News, April 27, 2016:

One of the four men accused of the conspiracy to carry out a terrorist attack, in which NSW Police accountant Curtis Cheng was murdered, has reportedly raised his index finger during a court appearance, in a similar gesture used by Islamic State militants.

Milad Atai, 20, appeared in court via video link alongside Mustafa Dirani, 22 and Raban Alou, 18 earlier today.

Mr Atai made the gesture to the camera as the matter concluded in Goulburn Local Court today.

The fourth accused, 23-year-old Talal Alameddine, was the only one to appear in court and to be legally represented.

None of the group applied for bail.

The four men were charged yesterday with conspiracy to prepare and plan for a terrorist attack.

All four were already in police custody over related alleged offences, when the new charges were laid yesterday.

Mr Atai became the fourth person charged in connection to the death of Mr Cheng, who was shot dead outside Parramatta Police Headquarters on October 2 last year.

Mr Atai is accused of helping the sister of the 15-year-old gunman, Farhad Jabar, travel to Syria the day after the shooting.

Jabar was fatally shot by police outside the Parramatta building after Mr Cheng was killed….

Iran to build seven new nuclear plants by 2020

A country whose leaders constantly make its citizens scream “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” What could possibly go wrong? Nothing, of course: Barack Obama and John Kerry promised us that their nuke deal would secure peace in our time.

“Iran to Build Seven New Nuke Plants By 2020,” by Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, April 29, 2016:

Iran is offering to help the global community construct nuclear power plants, according to a top official, who said that Iran would be home to seven new nuclear plants by 2020, according to recent remarks.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, announced on Friday that Iran has the technology and know-how to help the world’s advanced nations construct nuclear power plants.

Iran is currently holding talks with a variety of nations aimed at cementing new deals to construct new nuclear plants, Kamalvandi was quoted as saying in the country’s state-controlled press.

“Besides Bushehr nuclear power plant and two other plants being constructed in Iran, four others will be built by 2020,” Kamalvandi announced.

Iran has been working with Russia to construct several new nuclear plants in the country.

“The Islamic Republic is pursuing a plan “to build at least one nuclear power plant every 15 years,” Kamalvandi said in separate remarks this month.

“After this stage, we will have a better opportunity in different fields, including increasing the number of power plants, and we are in talks with different countries to attain this goal,” he was quoted as saying….

Muslim cleric from UK now head of Islamic State in Somalia

What about all the people he taught in Britain? Where are they now? Does anyone in Britain know or care?

Sheiky Abdulqadir Mumin

“British extremist preacher linked to Lee Rigby killers emerges as head of Islamic State in Somalia,” by Colin Freeman, Telegraph, April 29, 2016:

A British extremist preacher linked to the killers of Drummer Lee Rigby has surfaced in an Islamic State propaganda video as the head of its new franchise in Somalia.

Sheiky Abdulqadir Mumin, who preached at mosques in London, fled to Somalia after being investigated by M15 for radicalising young men with his fiery sermons.

The henna-bearded militant, who burned his British passport on arrival in Somalia, has now re-emerged in a video shot in northern Somalia in which he leads a faction pledging allegiance to Isil’s Iraqi leader, Abubakr al-Baghdadi.

In the 15-minute broadcast, he presides over a group of heavily-armed fighters as they raise the black Islamic State flag and perform military drills in a remote mountain area.

Mumin’s presence in Somalia is likely alarm British security chiefs, given his alleged record as a recruiter of young Muslim radicals for the cause of violent jihad in Somalia and elsewhere.

The cleric was a visiting speaker at a mosque in London around the time it was attended by Michael Adebolajo, one of the two men jailed for the meat-cleaver murder of Drummer Lee Rigby at Woolwich Arsenal in 2013.

Mohammed Emwazi, the militant better known as Jihadi John, is understood to have occasionally attended the same mosque.

Somali-born Mumin, who arrived in Britain around ten years ago, is also believed to have done “outreach” work on the streets of south-east London, reaching out to troubled youngsters like Adebolajo.

He is understood to have tried to recruit at local “mafrishes” – meeting places where members of the area’s Somali community would gather to chew the narcotic qhat leaf.

Both Adebolajo and Emwazi made failed attempts to join extremist groups in Somalia, where Mumin retained strong contacts with radical groups.

In 2010, Mumin also took part in a press conference alongside the ex-Guantanamo Bay prisoner Moazzam Begg for the charity CagePrisoners, which was launching a report criticising Western anti-terror tactics in East Africa.

CagePrisoners’s research director, Asim Qureshi, was criticised last year after describing Emwazi as “a beautiful young man” who had been radicalised because of mistreatment by the security services.

In similar fashion, Mumin left Britain for good a few months after his appearance with CagePrisoners, complaining of harrassment by M15….

Turkey: Muslims scream “Allahu akbar” as columnists get jail for Muhammad cartoon

Rapidly Islamizing Turkey is clearly moving toward reimposing Sharia blasphemy laws. But the Turks are still “moderate”: Hikmet Cetinkaya and Ceyda Karan could have been sentenced to death. And in prison, they will be in serious danger.

Meanwhile, anyone in the West who starts to feel self-righteous about Turkey and freedom of speech should remember the chorus of condemnation we received from the mainstream media (and others) last year after jihadis attacked our Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest. People aren’t jailed yet in the U.S. for Muhammad cartoons, but there are plenty of people here who would like to see that happen. It’s coming.

Hikmet Cetinkaya

“Turkey columnists get two years in jail over Charlie Hebdo cartoon,” AFP, April 28, 2016:

An Istanbul court on Thursday sentenced two prominent Turkish journalists to two years behind bars for illustrating their columns with a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed originally published by French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.

“The Prophet Mohammed.” AFP, like all of the mainstream media, assumes that Muhammad is everyone’s prophet, and that we are all Muslims now.

The sentence handed to columnists Hikmet Cetinkaya and Ceyda Karan, both columnists with the opposition Cumhuriyet daily, intensified alarm over press freedoms in Turkey under strongman President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has made Islam the cornerstone of his politics.

“The two journalists were sentenced to two years each in jail,” said their lawyer Bulent Utku. “We will appeal the ruling at the appeals court,” Utku told AFP following a hearing at Istanbul’s criminal court.

The pair, who went on trial in January last year, were acquitted of “insulting religious values” but convicted on charges of “inciting public hatred”.

They were sentenced to three years in jail, which was reduced to two by the court on technical grounds.

‘Erdogan’s family among plaintiffs’

The state-run Anatolia news agency said the case was brought by a total of 1,280 plaintiffs including Erdogan’s daughters Esra and Sumeyye, his son Bilal and his son-in-law, Energy Minister Berat Albayrak.

The Erdogan family was represented by a lawyer in court, it added.

After the verdict, members of the public who had brought the complaint and were present in court shouted “Allahu Akbar”, Cumhuriyet reported — Arabic for ‘God is greatest’….

UK: Imam who favors death for apostasy to investigate death threats to apostates

The contemporary UK would make for a riotous comedy show if it weren’t so tragic.

Maulana Shahid Raza“Muslim Council Of Britain Appoints Pro ‘Death To Apostates’ Imam To Investigate ‘Death To Apostates’ Group,” by Liam Deacon, Breitbart, April 28, 2016 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

The UK’s largest Muslim organisation has appointed a panel to investigate a sectarian hate group making death threats against alleged “apostates”, led by a man who has supported the group and believes apostates should be killed.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) is the, “largest national representative of British Muslim associations, mosques and schools”, and a government report last year found they are connected to the international caliphate-agitating Muslim Brotherhood.

After the murder of Glasgow shop keeper Asad Shah, a member of the persecuted Ahmadi sect, the MCB was criticised for being affiliated to Khatme Nubbawat – an organisation with the sole purpose of annihilating of the Ahmadi Community, who they refer to with derogatory language as “Qadiyani cult”.

The MCB itself officially classes Ahmadis as “apostates”, a charge punishable by death in many Muslim nations, but insists violence must not be used against them in the UK.

Khatme Nubbawat has been directly implicated in inciting violence in Pakistan that has led to the murder of Ahmadis. In the UK, they are known as the Stockwell Green Mosque, and were distributing literature calling for “capital punishment” of Ahmadi’s in top London universities just last year.

After the high profile murder, the MCB ordered the “temporary suspension of its affiliate” Khatme Nubuwwa,  and set up an “Independent Investigation Panel” tasked with:

“Determin[ing] whether the named affiliate has been and/or remains engaged in such activities that make its continued affiliation with the MCB undesirable and not in accord with the Shariah and the duty to promote and work for the common good of the society”.

They claim that: “Spreading of hatred and espousal of violence on any ground is neither permitted nor sanctioned by Shariah and the laws in the United Kingdom.

However, one of the men leading the panel, Maulana Shahid Raza Naeemi OBE, a sharia judge and imam, told the Dewsbury Reporter in 2011, that: “Sharia law says that if a Muslim changes their religion it is treason and the punishment for treason is death”, when asked if a man who converts from Islam to Christianity must receive the death sentence.

Furthermore, as pointed out by secular campaigner Sadaf Ahmed, Mr. Naeemi has spoken at Khatme Nubbawat hate events himself, where he appears to demonstrate support for the very organisation he is now tasked with “independent[ly]” investigating.

Mr Naeemi was awarded an OBE by Prince Charles in 2008 for “his years of tireless work in interfaith dialogue, for the support and leadership he has shown for Muslims in Britain, and his services to British society at large”. He was also given a honorary degree by the University of Leicester this year.

The Crown Prosecution Service has repeatedly declined to bring criminal charges against Khatme Nubbawat, a decision which has been criticised by Lord Avebury, former vice chairman of the government’s Parliamentary Human Rights Group, who said the decision showed Britain’s laws against inciting religious hatred were “not effective”….
